manual

real life is the ultimate open book exam
-Tina Seelig-

true.
in a way.

and He has given the life manual - al-Quran.

"This (al-Quran) is a clear insight and evidence for mankind and a guidance and a mercy for people who have Faith with certainty." 45:20

and He sent the Prophet Muhammad saw - his akhlaq is the al-Quran, according to Aishah r.a. when asked about the Prophet saw. as if....he is the walking al-Quran! :)

"Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad saw), uswah hasanah (a good example to follow) for him who hopes for Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much." 33:21

I leave behind me two things, the QURAN
and my example, the SUNNAH
and if you follow these you will never go astray.
-Prophet Muhammad saw, in his last sermon-

from a tazkirah few days back or last week maybe, am not sure.

the ustaz said, just like how the things we bought come with a manual, such as washing machines, sewing machines, television, radio, we, humans, His 'abid, come with a manual too which is the al-Quran. just like how we would cause damage to those things if we try to operate them without following the manual, we would...cause damage...to our lives if we try to live without following our manual - al-Quran.

well that was the translated version of the ustaz's speech :)

but...
how well have we understood al-Quran?

frankly speaking, I used to think - well I can read al-Quran from the beginning till the end, I know some arabic, okay la what, enough la. so I just read my life manual, not understanding most of the things mentioned in it. =.=" imagine a car, not being driven properly. what do you expect? a crash, right?

not that I'm a pro 'driver' now.
lesen L, langgar tiang bila nak parking, tak lepas kona tiga penjuru, mati enjin atas bukit.

am so grateful to an ukht. she brought me to an iftar event with muallaf.
their stories are indeed very interesting. in most stories, they fall in love with Islam once they understand al-Quran. their first step towards Islam was the strengthening of akidah through understanding kalamullah which (with His power) allowed them to taste the sweetness of being a Muslim.

while listening to their stories, I came to realize that, many of us who were born Muslim didn't start with akidah strengthening. the first step was learning about ibadah and carrying out ibadah. it's like - you're born in a Muslim family, your IC says you're Muslim so your God is Allah swt and now, you have to pray, fast etc. many were brought up being asked to perform ibadah and this and that without knowing the significance..without knowing/tasting the sweetness of being a Muslim first.

quoting from here - An institution can be illustrated as a complete building. Without strong foundation/base, the building cannot be build and cannot stand on its own . Aqidah is considered the foundation that can support the development of an Islamic institution.

so when the akidah, the base is weak, it is highly unlikely that the building will last long, IF it could be built in the first place.

ok, back to the topic.

one thing that Dr. Danial Zainal Abidin said during the tazkirah he gave after we performed tarawih during the iftar event caught my attention, let me end this post with it :) -

we often ask people "Hang khatam quran dak lagi?" (Have you finished reading the whole quran?), but rarely we ask/we don't ask "Hang faham quran dak lagi?" (Have you understood the content of quran?).
